About Us

WaSAP is a social business registered in Sierra Leone that provides Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Services in rural and peri urban communities using the self-supply approach. Our approach is based on low-cost, locally available technologies and services to ensure sustainable and stable access, especially for people in marginalized communities.

Our Story

WaSAP traces its origins to the SLE 1061 WASH project, implemented by Welthungerhilfe on Bonthe Island in 2015, with funding from BMZ. Following the project’s completion, Welthungerhilfe teamed up with EMAS International to establish WaSAP as a social business, which was officially founded on January 20, 2020. Our partnership with EMAS is also based on the integration of their technology for manual borehole drilling and the construction of sanitation and hygiene facilities into our program, as it aligns with our values of low-cost solutions and sustainability. Since then, we have expanded our expertise to operate across a wider range of areas, which is why we have adopted more complex systems like the Indian Mark II. However, our main focus as a WASH service provider remains on delivering affordable solutions to middle-income households in peri-urban areas, while collaborating with NGOs and donor agencies on humanitarian initiatives.
